In short: we collect no personal data. Chess GM Champion runs entirely on your device. There are no accounts of ours, no servers of ours, no ads and no analytics, and nothing you do in the app is ever sent to us. The app deals with Google in three limited ways, all described below: Google Play's update check and rating sheet, your phone's own Android backup (if you have it switched on), and — only if you switch on the optional Play Games Profile setting — the gameplay statistics listed below, for your own Play Games profile.

None. We do not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal information. The app has no sign-up or login, requests no permissions to identify you, and includes no advertising or analytics software. Nothing the app holds is ever sent to MaxLeaf. The one feature that sends information about your play anywhere is the optional Play Games Profile setting described below, which sends gameplay statistics to Google for your own Play Games profile — never to us. The Google Play features and the Android backup described under Network use and Android backup are run by Google and your phone, not by us.
To make the app useful across sessions, the following is saved only on your
device using your browser/app local storage (localStorage):
The app also keeps an automatic backup copy of this data as a file in its own private storage on your device, so that your progress can be restored after a reinstall.
None of this is ever sent to us. We have no servers and cannot access it. The app does not synchronise it to any cloud service of its own; the only way it leaves your phone is your phone's own Android backup, described next.
Android can back up apps' data to your own Google account. If backup is switched on in your phone's settings, Android copies this app's data — the saved progress and settings listed above, including the automatic backup file — to your Google account, and can restore it when you set up a new phone or reinstall the app. It can also be copied directly to a new phone during a device-to-device transfer. This is Android's feature, run by Google under your Google account; MaxLeaf never receives or sees the backup. You control it in your phone's settings (usually Settings → Google → Backup), where you can switch it off or delete the backup. The on-device switch that records whether you turned on the Play Games Profile setting is deliberately left out of this backup, so a restored phone never starts reporting to Play Games without being asked again.
Everything the app needs in order to play is bundled inside it. The chess engine (Stockfish) runs locally on your device, and the fonts and chess-piece graphics are packaged with the app, so every game, puzzle and lesson works fully offline. The app never contacts MaxLeaf: we run no servers, and nothing from the app reaches us.
The Android app includes three Google Play libraries. They talk to Google, never to us:

of this app is available; the Play Store checks with Google Play. If you choose to update,

asks the Google Play Store app to show Google's rating sheet, and only after you choose to
rate the app. Any rating or review you write goes to Google Play under your Google account;
the app never sees it.com.google.android.gms:play-services-base)
checks on your phone whether Google Play services is installed, so the app can hide
options your phone cannot use. This check sends nothing anywhere.The app gives these libraries none of your games, rating or settings. What the Play Store and Google Play do is covered by Google's Privacy Policy.
If you switch on the optional Play Games Profile setting, the app also contacts Google's Play Games services to sign you in and to record the gameplay events listed in the next section. Android's own backup, if you have it on, is described above.
This is off by default. Under Settings → Backup & Play Games there is a Play Games Profile toggle. Turning it on signs you in to Google Play Games Services with your Google account, so that your chess statistics appear on your own Play Games profile.
While it is on, the app sends Google these gameplay events, and nothing else:
No names, no email address, no board positions, no moves and no message text are ever sent. Nothing goes to MaxLeaf at all — we have no servers and never receive any of it.
Games and puzzles you played before you turned the setting on are never recorded and are never sent afterwards. Turning the setting off stops the sending immediately and discards anything still waiting to be sent. The Play Games Services software is included in the app but stays inert until you turn the setting on.
Google's handling of the data is covered by Google's Privacy Policy. Statistics already on your Play Games profile are managed with Google's own Play Games controls (in the Google Play Games app, or your gamer profile in the Play Store), where you can review them and delete your Play Games data. MaxLeaf cannot delete them for you, because we never had them.
The app does not use cookies, advertising identifiers or tracking pixels, and contains no advertising or analytics SDK. The third-party software development kits (SDKs) it contains are Google's: the Play Games Services SDK, which stays inert unless you turn on the optional Play Games Profile setting above, and the Google Play In-App Updates, In-App Review and Play services base libraries described under Network use.
Chess GM Champion is suitable for all ages. Because the app collects no personal data from anyone, it collects no data from children. It contains no ads, no purchases, and no communication features.
The optional Play Games Profile feature needs a Google account and is off by default, so it is never used unless someone deliberately turns it on and signs in. Google applies its own age rules to Play Games profiles and to what may appear on them.
Because all data is stored locally on your device, you are in full control of it. To erase everything, clear the app's storage/data in your device settings, or simply uninstall the app. There is no account to close and nothing for us to delete on our side. If your phone's Android backup is on, a copy may also be held in your Google account; you can delete it from your phone's backup settings or your Google account's backup storage.
If you turned on the Play Games Profile setting, statistics already published to your Play Games profile are held by Google, not by us. Switch the setting off to stop sending any more, and use Google's Play Games controls to review or delete what is already there.
If this policy changes, we will update the effective date at the top of this page and publish the revised version at the same location. Continued use of the app after an update means you accept the revised policy.
